Color was her mourning. She masked her misery with bright, vivid colors that only further highlighted her deathly pale skin; color was her illuminated misfortune. She papered her room with the spectrum of the rainbow to hide behind it. And she turned color into a decoy, so that everyone else would think she was happy once again. Her colorful sadness was pitiful—as much so as the mediocrity of the pink with which she papered her life.
