The smile she put on in the morning had to last the rest of the day; at times it was hard for her, and it turned into a blue, unpleasant mask that she lived with for months. That mask prevented anyone from seeing her desolate interior—the ravages of the sea upon her ruined skin, amidst the nauseating algae that caused her to decay.
