She was so confused that she no longer recognized reality from fiction. She saw herself as an invalid, someone fragile whose legs had been amputated so that she would be unable to escape. She lived in a cage, surrounded by spectators who spied on her movements: "Do not feel, do not breathe, do not smile, do not cry..."
